Somewhere in your hour-long recording are the three or four moments worth posting. The problem is finding them without watching all sixty minutes again. Here's a method — and the signals to look for.
The traits shared by moments that travel
- A hook in the first line. A question, a contrarian claim, a specific number, or a cliffhanger. If the first sentence is throat-clearing, the clip is already losing.
- One complete thought. The moment has to make sense with zero context. If it references something said ten minutes earlier, it won't land.
- A payoff. A punchline, a surprising fact, an emotional beat, a resolution. Something the viewer gets for staying.
- Energy. A change in pace or volume — laughter, a raised voice, a dramatic pause before a reveal — signals that something is happening.
A faster way to shortlist
Instead of scrubbing, work from the transcript:
- Skim the transcript for hook lines — questions, numbers, "the thing nobody tells you", "here's what changed". Mark the timestamps.
- Check each marked moment for a complete thought — read 30–60 seconds around it. Does it stand alone?
- Trim to the hook. Move the start point to the first strong sentence, not 15 seconds of lead-in.
